Chamonix, one of the most famous winter resorts in the Alps, has chosen to partner with Catalate to launch dynamic pricing for the 2021/22 ski season. Located at the foot of Montblanc, the highest mountain in Central Europe, the French destination attracts guests from all over the world to its ski areas Brévent-Flégère, Grands Montets, and Balme “Tour-Vallorcine” every winter.
As a result of COVID-related closures of French ski areas in winter 2020/21, the lift company that operates Chamonix, Compagnie du Mont Blanc, has just introduced the “CHAMSKI DEAL” in partnership with Catalate, a year later than originally planned. The CHAMSKI DEAL is a new online product developed in collaboration with Catalate which rewards guests with lower prices by purchasing single-day lift tickets in advance. Based on historical data, holidays, the resort’s goals and other characteristics, Catalate built a dynamic pricing strategy for Chamonix where each day is priced differently and prices increase as demand for the product increases. By offering dynamically priced 1-day ski tickets, Chamonix hopes to attract local customers within a two-hour drive to the ski area and to get them excited about the various skiing opportunities Chamonix has to offer in the long term.
The reason for this is, not least, the uncertain situation on the international market. Antoine Burnet, Director of Sales and Marketing of the Compagnie du Mont Blanc Group, explains that “in a tourist context that is very complex due to the health crisis, the Compagnie du Mont Blanc is intensifying its marketing campaigns to attract local guests.”
By launching the CHAMSKI DEAL and attracting new guests, Chamonix hopes to show that:
- Inexpensive skiing is possible in Chamonix. If a customer is willing to buy a ski ticket in advance online, they are rewarded with a more attractive price.
- All types of skiers will find terrain for a great day of skiing in the ski areas around Chamonix.
- Chamonix can be reached quickly and comfortably thanks to the extensive transport network.
To launch the new product and strategy, Compagnie du Mont Blanc opted to use Catalate’s web shop solution, Cloud Store, and innovative dynamic pricing model. “An important criterion in choosing Catalate was their many years of experience in e-commerce and dynamic pricing, says Antoine Burnet. “In addition, the pricing model, available reporting/analysis, as well as the team as a whole convinced us that Catalate was the best choice.”
Evan Reece, CEO of Catalate, looks forward to the first winter season together. “We are honored that the Compagnie du Mont Blanc from the renowned winter sports resort of Chamonix has decided to work with Catalate. We are excited to help them leverage our dynamic pricing tools, our technology and service to attract new skiers to the areas and maximize their revenue.”
